World’s highest ever cricket match to be played on Mt Kilimanjaro
London – A team of 30 plus people will be playing cricket at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro as part of a fundraiser to be held this month.
This would be the first time ever in the history of cricket when the sport will be played at the highest level.
Makhaya Ntini is taking part, as are Ashley Giles, Heather Knight and Clare Connor, and four qualified ECB umpires are heading up to 5,785m to ensure the game meets the requirements of the Guinness Book of Records , the Guardian reports.
A Flicx pitch is currently being set up at the mountain, and the participants of the game are expected to reach the summit on Wednesday.
However, altitude remains a cause of concern for the players.
Dr Nishant Joshi, the team doctor on the trip and editor of Alternative Cricket said that he was counting on people being a little bit wary of the altitude.
He said that he was sure people won’t be bowling at full speed, adding that he was expecting even Makhaya to come down to spin bowling by the end of his six-ball spell.
