Suresh Raina says ‘honoured’ by PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan invite
New Delhi: Cricketer Suresh Raina today said he was honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to join the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The left-hander posted tweets confirming his participation in PM’s cleanliness initiative from his official account on micro-blogging site Twitter. Raina, who is currently part of the Indian team that is playing an ODI series against Sri Lanka, said he would participat in the cleanliness drive in his home state of Uttar Pradesh after the series ends.Mr. Modi made this announcement during a two-day visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi. He arrived at Assi Ghat to offer prayers to river Ganga this morning and then participated in a clean up drive along with others.
The PM then nominated nine distinguished people from Uttar Pradesh including former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif for his cleanliness drive.
Born in Ghaziabad, Raina has represented his state at the Under-16s as well as Ranji Trophy. While, Kaif is from Allahabad and has also been part of the Uttar Pradesh team before he went on to represent India. The former India player had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket.
Apart from two cricketers, the nine-man list also includes Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya of Chitrakoot Handicapped University, BJP MLA Manoj Tiwari, Manu Sharma, Padmashree Prof Devi Prasad Dwivedi, TV comedian Raju Srivastava and singer Kailash Kher.
