Sehwag finally comes good as Kings XI roar
On Friday, Kings XI Punjab’s innings followed a similar pattern perfected by them during the IPL earlier this year: bat the opposition out of the game.
Everything fell into place for KXIP against Northern Knights as the local team piled up 215 courtesy a great start provided by youngster Manan Vohra and Virender Sehwag.
Later, Punjab bowlers kept things tight to stop Knights from getting off to a flier. Losing wickets at regular intervals, Knights’ innings wrapped up for just 95 giving KXIP a 120-run victory, a rare margin in a T20 competition. And with that they entered the semi-final.
Needing to score above 10 runs per over, Knights faced an uphill task even before facing the first ball. Losing Daniel Harris with just 10 runs on board compounded their misery.
Kate Williamson and Anton Devcich tried to keep the Knights in the game with some crisp hitting, but once they were gone, the innings fell apart.
Sehwag and the 21-year-old Vohra, went hammer and tongs right from the first ball. Punjab lost some momentum in the middle overs, but David Miller was in hand to blast 40 off 18 for a strong finish.
