New McLaren driver Magnussen calls Hamilton’s debut season with team `inspiring`
London – New McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen has said that Lewis Hamilton’s success in his debut Formula One season is an encouragement as he prepares for 2014, according to reports.
According to the BBC, the 21-year-old Dane will emulate Hamilton by entering Formula 1 with McLaren, who have signed him as Jenson Button’s teammate for next season.
Hamilton won four races and almost took the world title in his 2007 debut year, the report said.
Magnussen said that the fact that Hamilton did what he is doing now is a positive for him, adding that it shows that the team has been there before.
Magnussen follows in the footsteps of his father Jan, who also made his F1 debut with McLaren, in the 1995 Pacific Grand Prix, before racing for a season and a half with the Stewart team in 1997 and 1998, the report added.
