MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli recommended for Padma Awards by BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s name for Padma Bhushan and run machine Virat Kohli for Padma Shri. Indian women cricket team’s skipper Mithali Raj has also been recommended for Padma Shri.
A source from BCCI said, “Yes, the Board has recommended their names for these honour – Padma Bhushan for Dhoni and Padma Shri for Kohli and Mithali Raj.”
This news came in after the India’s second loss in the ongoing series against England. India are trailing in the series. They will be desperate to bounce back in the final Test and will also look to square the series in order to avoid yet another overseas defeat under the belt of MS Dhoni.
In 2009, Dhoni was awarded the Padma Shri. If BCCI’s recommendation is accepted then he will be the 10th cricketer to receive this prestigious award. Dhoni led the Indian team, which went on to win both the limited over version’s world cups.
Under Dhoni, India have won two limited overs World Cups, including the One Day International (ODI) one in 2011. In 2013, India also won the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy by defeating England in the final. This victory also came under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Virat Kohli on the other hand have already score over 5,000 runs in the shorter format of the game and also he has 25 international centuries in his kitty.
