Jamshedpur – After winning two gold medals (breaking two national records, as the Archery Association of India clarified on Tuesday) on Day One, Deepika Kumari was on way to reign supreme on the second day, too, when a mistake took away her fourth gold.

The Asia champion began the day at Keenan Stadium winning the gold and setting another national record in the 50m recurve category and was poised for the fourth yellow medal in the 30m event when it happened. After shooting the final set of arrows, she took them off the target before signing on the scoresheet. The judges deducted 59 points for the six arrows she had removed. It meant she finished with just 295 points. Her loss was Gujarat’s V Praneetha’s gain as she won her first gold.

In the men’s Olympic event, there was disappointment for home boy Jayanta Talukdar and Services’ Tarundeep Rai. Both lost in QF to eventual finalists Muni Ram Tirkey (Services) and Gurcharan Besra (Bihar) respectively.
