Batting sensation Virat Kohli may be facing a dry patch in terms of scoring runs in IPL, but the star cricketer is a hit in the Twitter arena.

Kohli has recently reached a whopping 3.1 million followers on the popular social website, surging ahead of his team India captain, Ms Dhoni. Dhoni so far has 2.82M followers.

The followership of Kohli speaks volumes of his rapidly increasing popularity.

After MSD, the next challenger for Kohli is Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who Kohli has idolised since a young age. The legendary cricketer has 4.27M followers on twitter, but with

Kohli’s fan base increasing at a brisk pace, crossing Sachin should be no problem for him.

On the all time Twitter followers’ chart, Kohli (3.08 million followers) is way ahead at the top, gaining 50,000 new followers in the third week of the IPL, the highest of anyone in the top 10.

Interestingly, bollywood has an upper hand over cricket when it comes to twitter followers.
Shah Rukh Khan(7.6M), Salman Khan(6.84) and Amir Khan(6.76M) are already way ahead of the cricketers. But it’s not the Khan’s who rule Twitter, it’s Big B, Amitabh Bachchan, who is Twitterati’s favourite with 8.7M followers.

Amitabh Bachchan is the most followed Indian on Twitter and is currently on 97th spot in followership.

However, Indians are still lagging behind its international counterparts from showbiz and sports .

Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo(26M) is the most followed athlete in the world.

But entertainment business trumps sports as singer Katy Perry rules the Twitter world with almost 53 million followers, and chasing her closely is Justin Bieber(52M) at No.2.
