BCCI looking to better it’s public image, says Anurag Thakur
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to change it’s public image, according to BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur. BCCI, the richest board in the world by far, is commonly perceived as an organisation that uses it’s power to bully smaller cricket boards and has also received heavy public criticism for their refusal to adopt the Decision Review System (DRS). According to Thakur, the positive initiatives by BCCI are often ignored and they get a bad name“I think it is very important to change the perception,” Thakur was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.com. “BCCI has done a lot of things. We are the only cricket board to organize 900 matches a season with 2100 playing days. We provide close to INR 50000 to 900 cricketers, something no other board does.
“We have provided a platform like IPL for upcoming cricketers to play with the iconic cricketers of the world. We’ve helped ex-cricketers to become commentators, members of the coaching staff or to be associated with the game in any form. However, these have never been put across to the world,” Thakur continued.
“Everyone knows we are a very well run cricket body, but I think that these points never get highlighted. It is high time to create the right perception. We may have gone wrong in a couple of points, but it is time to learn from that and move ahead. We will bring in more transparency and accountability to the system,” said Thakur.
