Australian Open: Stanislas Wawrinka’s semifinal victory sets possibility for an all-Swiss final
Melbourne: As Stanislas Wawrinka advances into his maiden Grand Slam final, his victory against Tomas Berdych has also set the possibility for an all-Swiss final at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.
It could be one of the rare moments in tennis history, if 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer can defeat World No. 1 Rafael Nadal to move into the finals, where his compatriot Wawrinka would be waiting for him.
Wawrinka and Federer have locked horns against each other 13 times in the past, and the only time Wawrinka defeated Federer was in 2009, that too on clay.
But for an all-Swiss final to happen, 32-year-old Federer would have to first beat Rafael Nadal, who played a tough quarter final match against Grigor Dimitrov to reach the Australian Open semi-finals.
