Feng Shui Garden

In Feng Shui, garden is considered a form of Yin, while the house is said to be Yang. Therefore, the garden and the house should present the balance of both yin and yang energies. Though the size of the garden does not matter, its design, planning and layout is very important. The flower beds, the angles, the curved pathway, all play an important role in attaining the balance of energies between the garden and the house. However, you can make your garden beautiful as well as harmonious by following some basic Feng Shui tips. Besides this, the basic elements of Feng Shui, like the Ba-gua, the compass, the five element theory, the flow of energy and Chi, are applicable as much to your garden as to your house.

Paving
Try and avoid over-usage of straight lines, as this will help you reduce negative energy. For a good paving, use curved stones. Besides this, you can also use straight edged stones in curved lines or a herring bone pattern to activate the flow of Chi. If the paving area of your garden is quite large, you can place chairs and tables or even plants in accordance with feng shui principles, to boost up the flow of positive energy.

Fences and Hedges
Fences and hedges are very useful in a garden. They not only provide segmentation in the garden, but also beautify it, especially when trimmed in exquisite shapes. Rather than having straight fences, trim them in curved or irregular shapes. Use flower beds and creeping vines to break the high fences. Feng Shui principles, when applied to the garden, balance the whole area of the garden within itself as well as with the home located in the vicinity.

Feng Shui Garden Tips
Given below are some tips which will prove to be helpful in applying Feng Shui in your Garden

  • Have "living spaces" in you garden, as they provide a haven for friends and family to relax and enjoy the sunshine and gentle breeze.
  • Trees or large shrubs at the back of the garden provide privacy as well as protection.
  • Mix different sizes, shapes and colors of plants to acquire balance within different species.
  • Water elements, such as pools, ponds and fountains, are appealing and encourage the flow of Chi. They also ring prosperity and represent yin (feminine) energy.
  • To balance the Yin, use garden lights in the dark areas which represent Yang (masculine) energy.
