Tribal protests pose threat to fresh coal block allocations in Chhattisgarh
20 villages in Chhattisgarh have come together against government’s plans to conduct fresh auctions of 16 coal blocks which can pose a serious challenge to mining in the region. The tribals, afraid of losing their lands, are now preparing for a legal battle. The villages protesting the government’s decision in the district held a Gram Sabha and have successfully passed a resolution against mining in the areas, say the locals.
