For thousands in Rajasthan, a court decision on whether they can contest village polls
In Rajasthan, a court will today decide on a controversial government order that set educational prerequisites for contesting village polls. The High Court is expected to give an order on the ordinance or executive order that requires those fighting panchayat elections to have studied till Class 8 in school. Another two years of education are needed for a member of a panchayat samiti, which governs a group of villages.
