Journo adopter says Google Glass is `doomed` for 2014
Washington, Jan. 3 (ANI): A tech journalist and an early adopter of Google Glass has reportedly given his verdict that the highly-anticipated wearable computing device is set to be ‘doomed’ for this year.
Robert Scoble got his Google Glass device in April last year as part of the search giant’s Explorers Programme, which aims to test the device for possible tweaks and improvements as required.
According to CNN, Scoble has predicted that the eyewear’s price tag is too high and there won’t be enough apps or useful functions to make the wearable tech worth the cost of 1,500 dollars for the general public.
However, the journalist noted that in the long-term, with increased competition from rival brands, Google Glass would be a big deal by 2020, but for now it is doomed, if it is hoping to compete with Apple’s iWatch.
The report said that Apple has not yet formally announced its smartwatch but is rumoured to be working on one for a possible 2014-launch.
Scoble further said that if the price of the voice-controlled device with a camera and small screen located above the wearer’s right eye is brought under 300 dollars and have another revision then the market for the device will really show up.
The journalist said that as the headset requires custom-fitting to its wearers, the prices would inflate, adding that Glass apps, particularly Facebook app, would turn out to be a major disappointment for many people.
