Supreme Court restrains TN govt from releasing Rajiv killers
The Supreme Court on Thursday restrained the Tamil Nadu government from releasing Rajiv Gandhi’s killers and directed it to maintain status quo while hearing a plea by the Centre. Seven convicts are serving life sentences for the 1991 assassination of the former Prime Minister.
“There have been procedural lapses by the Tamil Nadu government in its decision to release seven convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case,” the apex court said. The SC also issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government and all seven convicts.
The matter will now be heard on March 6, according to TV reports.
Earlier, the Centre had moved the apex court against the Tamil Nadu government’s decision.
