Invite BJP to form govt or call fresh poll: AAP to Delhi LG
A day after the Supreme Court ruled that Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung can take a decision to revive or dissolve the Delhi assembly, Aam Aadmi Party today wrote a letter to Jung, requesting him to either invite BJP to form the government or dissolve the assembly if the BJP refuses to form government.
Senior AAP leader Prashant Bhushan, who wrote the letter, said that in view of the new development, the LG should “invite BJP leaders to ascertain whether they are inclined to form the government in Delhi, and, if they express their unwillingness or inability to form the government, then you kindly reconsider your earlier recommendation to the President of placing the assembly in a state of suspended animation, and take the appropriate decision in this regard, so that the citizens of Delhi can have a democratically elected government at the earliest.”
The minority AAP government resigned on February 14, 2014 after remaining in power for 49 days.
Shortly after resigning as chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal had asked the LG to conduct elections.
The party had won 28 seats in the 70-seat assembly, second to BJP which won 32.
Congress had got just eight 8 seats and the party had extended outside support to the AAP to form the government.
