New Delhi –  In a scathing attack on Sushilkumar Shinde, former Home Secretary R K Singh today said he is not fit to be the Home Minister and Finance Minister P Chidambaram is “100 times better” than him.

“… He is not fit to be the Home Minister,” Singh told TV channels.

He was replying to a question on whether Shinde should resign for his alleged interference in the transfer and posting in Delhi Police and giving wrong information about the US helping India in bringing back underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Asked whom he considered to be a better Home Minister — P Chidambaram or Shinde — the former Home Secretary, who has recently joined BJP, said the current Finance Minister “is 100 times better” that the current Home Minister.

Singh said Shinde has been “misleading the nation on Dawood by giving wrong information”.

“The FBI never said that they would help in nabbing Dawood. I was also there in FBI meetings. Why would America help us in third country,” he asked.
Singh said numerous slips used to come from Home Minister’s residence for posting and transfer in Delhi Police to the Police Commissioner.

“These were not a few postings but in large number of police stations,” he said.

“I don’t know whether money used to exchange hands but Delhi Police Commissioner told me that numerous slips used to come from his residence… you don’t make large number of recommendations… the postings as SHO’s has a vigilance angle to it,” he said.

He claimed Delhi Police was stopped by Shinde from questioning a Mumbai-based businessman, who is said to have “some kind of links” with Dawood, in connection with the betting in Indian Premier League T-20 tournament.

The former Home Secretary said differences between him and Shinde were well known and even the Prime Minister also knew about it.
