Suresh Prabhu flags-off four new train services in J-K
Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has flagged off four new diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) train services from Nowgan railway station in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh were also present on the occation along with several senior ministers of the BJP-PDP coalition government.
Prabhu said that railways is committed to improving connectivity in the state, which is vital to its well being.
“We have flagged off four new trains.We are planning to add more coaches to these trains so that more people can travel. We are in constant touch with the state government; we have decided to hold a meeting with state government once every 15 days so that problems related to improving rail network in Jammu and Kashmir can be solved,” he said.
“Peace in the region is the most important thing, new projects can function effectively only if the atmosphere is peaceful. The job opportunity for youth of the state will improve once connectivity improves,” he added.
The new trains will facilitate rail travel along Banihal-Qazigund-Baramulla rail track which passes through the Pir Panjal mountain range.
