Kolkata: A prominent member of the West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress has threatened of dire consequences in the event of his party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s arrest in connection with the multi-crore rupees Saradha chitfund scam.“If Mamata Banerjee is arrested in the Saradha scam, entire West Bengal will burn,” Idris Ali, TMC MP was quoted as saying by the ANI on Wednesday.

As per reports, the TMC leader from Basirhat has threatened to resort to violence in West Bengal if Mamata Banerjee is framed in the Saradha chitfund scam by the CBI.

Ali reportedly made the statement at a public rally yesterday. Ali’s remarks are being seen as an open and direct threat to the CBI, which is probing the case.

Idris Ali’s remark has evoked sharp reactions from the Congress party.

Senior Congress leader PC Chacko said, “Saradha scam inquiry must take place in a proper manner if there is any irregularity going on.”

The remarks from Ali indicates the growing pressure on the state’s ruling party as four of its top leaders had already been arrested in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chitfund scam case.

Suspended TMC leader Kunal Ghosh had earlier made serious allegations by saying that Mamata was the biggest beneficiary of the scam.

The Saradha scam brought a huge embarrassment for TMC chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee as TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, Madan Mitra, Mukol Roy and many other top leaders got arrested for being involved in the scam. This has left the party worried with leaders coming out in the open and calling the accusations to be fake.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that another TMC MP Satabdi Roy is likely to be summoned by the CBI in connection with the ongoing probe.

Multiple central agencies including the ED, CBI and the Serious Frauds Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Corporate Affairs Ministry are currently probing the Saradha chitfund scam case.
