Ram Sethu will not be demolished, says Nitin Gadkari
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday said the Centre will not allow demolition of the Ram Sethu.
The minister did not elaborate on the issue as the matter is sub-judice. However, Gadkari suggested four alternatives which would be discussed in the Parliament. The minister is expected to visit the Ram Sethu site in September.
In another important announcement, the minister said that toll tax will be waived on those roads and highways the construction expenditure for which has already been met. No toll tax will be taken on under-construction roads.
“We aim at constructing 30 km of road per day. Unfortunately, not even a kilometre of road was made in July this year. There is no dearth of fund and we expect results in two years,” he said.
