Tehelka case: Goa Police issues immigration check post alert against Tejpal

New Delhi – The National Commission for Women (NCW) Sunday asked the! Mumbai police to ensure security of the woman journalist who has accused Tarun Tejpal, founder and editor-in-chief of Tehelka news magazine, of sexually assaulting her.

The move comes following a statement issued by the woman, who is based in Mumbai, that she fears “intimidation and harassment” as Tejpal’s family is putting pressure on her family.

“NCW is concerned following the statement and have spoken to Mumbai police chief Himanshu Roy to ensure the girl’s security,” said NCW member Nirmala Samant.

She said the Mumbai police have assured her to provide all necessary protection to the woman in case she approaches them.

“NCW is there to ensure her safety and security,” she said.

Meanwhile, a team of Goa Police questioned the magazine’s managing editor Shoma Chaudhury and other employees.

The victim, in her complaint to Chaudhury, said that Tejpal sexually assaulted her twice in the elevator in the Club House section of the Gr! and Hyatt five-star resort during the high-profile ThinkFest conference! of Tehelka Nov 7-8.

The victim is daughter of a former colleague of Tejpal, who has recused himself from his post as editor-in-chief of Tehelka after being accused of sexual assault by the woman, his junior colleague.

The matter came to light after intra-office communication between Tejpal, Chaudhury and the victim was leaked to the media last week. Chaudhury too has been accused of trying to hush up the matter.
