Man arrested for murdering live-in partner in South Delhi
NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man has been arrested for murdering his live-in partner in their flat in Neb Sarai, south Delhi, after he was fed up with her increasing demand for money.
The incident was reported on September 17 when locals complained of a foul smell emanating from the flat where the man, Pankaj, lived with Seema. Neighbours claimed they had seen the couple fighting a few days before Seema’s decomposed body was found in the house.
On investigating, cops found that they had been living together for the past four years after they came here from Mumbai.
Lately, the two were having problems in their relationship because of Seema’s demanding nature and Pankaj had decided to walk out of it, police said. Seema had threatened him with dire consequences if he did so which caused regular arguments between them.
During a recent argument, Pankaj strangled Seema with her dupatta. When she fell unconscious, he smothered her with a pillow. He then locked the main door from outside to avoid suspicions and fled.
“A team under SHO Neb Sarai Rajender Bhatia was formed to nab the accused and he was finally arrested from Munirka,” said Prem Nath, DCP south.
Police said Pankaj’s landlord had no details of him. A team was then sent to Pankaj’s hometown in Allahabad from where they got to know about his whereabouts and retrieved his phone number.
Pankaj worked as a welder, police said. Pankaj told the police that Seema was impulsive and dominating in nature. He added that she demanded money from him to lead a lavish life which he could not afford.
