Honour killing rocks Ganjam, 3 arrested
Berhampur: In another case of ‘honour killing’ in Ganjam district, police on Sunday arrested a man and his two sons for allegedly strangulating his daughter before hanging her to pass it off as suicide at Badapankala village two days ago.
The accused father was identified as Surya Dalai, 50, a farmer. “The accused have confessed to the murder,” said IIC of Polosara police station Sujit Kumar Nayak.
Police said the victim’s father was unhappy with her alleged love affair and killed her to save family honour.
This is the second case of honour killing in the district in the last one-and-a-half months and fourth in the last two years.
On May 11, Mami Nayak and her boyfriend Amar Nayak were allegedly killed by her brother at Haladiapadar on the outskirts of the town. Her brothers Budha and Nirakar and one of their relatives, Kalu, were later arrested.
On July 21, 2013, a couple of Hundat village under Purushottampur police limits were arrested for allegedly killing their daughter. Police had recovered the skull and belongings of the victim from Chandipadar on July 16.
Police arrested a man and his son from Alaguda village for allegedly killing his daughter on September 1, 2012. They had thrown the body in a canal at Tikarapada.
