New Delhi – Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday said he was shocked by the results of the Delhi polls, and added he did not expect or anticipate a defeat for his party.

“I am very surprised and astonished. I have been in politics for the last 40 years and would have come to know which way things were going. But, this time, it was just not visible,” Singh said.

Adding to that, he said he had even checked with his sources on the day after the polling and was informed that the response had been good everywhere.

“On the day after polling, I checked up from many sources everywhere, and I came to know that we were doing absolutely well. If you notice, two days after the polling, there was a long silence at the BJP headquarters. So, I never expected this kind of result,” he said.

Responding to a question about who was responsible for the defeat of the Congress, he said everyone was equally responsible for it.

Furthermore, he said he was very happy with the response given to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“It a very good demonstration for democracy in this country that a political party, which is not even a year old, has created a place for itself. It reflects the strength of the Indian democracy,” he said.

“It is a great thing, and, I would like to congratulate Mr. Kejriwal. Also, I would like to appeal to the people to participate in electoral democracy instead of only cursing and abusing politicians,” he added.
