Advani booed at kabaddi contest
More than two months after the general elections, veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani may not have expected to be jeered and greeted with chants of “Modi, Modi” at an event as far flung from politics as a commercial kabaddi competition.
The veteran BJP leader, however, had to face the chants and cut short his speech as the crowd at the Thyagaraj Stadium for the Pro Kabaddi League interrupted Mr. Advani every time he began speaking, boisterously chanting the Prime Minister’s name.
“I did play kabaddi in my younger days, like so many others. But I feel proud today that something so truly Indian is becoming popular with a makeover,” was all Mr. Advani managed to convey amidst the din before the organizers, embarrassed by the jeering, apologised and moved him away.
Mr. Advani was accompanied by his daughter Pratibha and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
