Aarushi case live: Rajesh, Nupur Talwar get life imprisonment
Dr Rajesh and Nupur Talwar have been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing their 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj Banjade. The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh sentenced Rajesh and Nupur on Tuesday in the five-and-a-half year old gruesome twin murder case. They have been sentenced under Sec 302 of IPC, 5 years under Sec 203, 1 year for Rajesh Talwar under Sec 201. The court has also awarded the Talwars a fine of Rs 17,000. While the CBI demanded death for Talwars, the defence sought leniency during the arguments in the court.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution sought maximum punishment of death penalty arguing that it was a cold blooded murder and hence, fell under the category of rarest of rare cases. The defence counsel sought leniency.
The court turned down the prosecution’s argument for capital punishment and instead sentenced the dentist couple to life. The sentence order was read in the presence of both the convicts. They were taken back to Dasna Jail.
