As Delhi is inching closer to Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party is leaving no stones unturned to woo as many voters as possible to come back to power in the capital state. AAP’s SC/ST wing launched In a latest move, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has now decided to woo the Scheduled Castes (SC). As per an Indian Express report, AAP has opened its SC/ST wing to court with the Delhi’s Dalits. It must be noted that in last year’s assembly polls AAP claimed nine of 12 seats reserved for the Scheduled Castes. Hence, the party wants to consolidate on these voters which deflected towards the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls. AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal along with members of the Dalit community, including Cheena Ji Maharaj who is the ceremonial head of Valmiki Sadan, were present at the inauguration ceremony of party’s SC/ST wing. The event was held at the FICCI auditorium in Central Delhi. During the entire event the party highlighted the fact that Arvind Kejriwal’s 49-day government had two ministers coming from the community and portrayed AAP as the only party which treats the community with respect. Kejriwal attacks PM Modi As per the Indian Express report, Manoj Kumar, MLA from Kondli and president of the newly formed frontal organisation, said, “The other parties always treat us as a votebank and never speak of our issues. Each one of you can go up to Arvind Kejriwal and speak to him. We couldn’t even get to the private secretaries of the leaders in the past. Only the AAP did what it promised. It had two ministers, Rakhi Birla and Girish Soni, from our community in the Cabinet.” AAP convener Kejriwal used the stage to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not solving the problems of the cleaners and sweepers, who predominantly hail from these communities. AAP too indulging into votebank politics? It seems that AAP too has started doing vote bank politics. It must be noted that the party which had always criticised other parties for appeasement of a particular votebank has itself indulged into it. During Lok Sabha polls the party tried wooing Muslim voters as its convener Arvind Kejriwal sported skull caps while visiting Muslim dominated areas.
