34 rocket launchers, 800 cartridges recovered in Punjab

The seized ammunition include 34 rocket launchers and 800 rounds of cartridges of Light Machine Guns (LMG) near a canal at village Mulepur in the district, police said. The rocker launcher (85MM) and LMG cartridges were stuffed in bags and dumped near the canal, they said.

Senior Superintendent of Police of Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said a bomb disposal squad from Jalandhar was also called to defuse the ammunition.

Panic gripped the village after the recovery of arms and ammunitions.

A villager noticed the shells, who informed the local police officials. After receiving information Sirhind SHO Harwinder Singh Cheema and other police officials reached the spot.

Police said all roads to village Mulepur had been sealed and later the process to defuse the ammunition in open ground of another village Fatehpur was being carried out.
