Camels vying for Beauty Crown in UAE contest
London – Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Camel Festival is home to a unique beauty contest, where the contestant is not your average long-legged-stunners but camels.
The Al Dhafra festival, which began on Dec. 22 and could last up to 2 weeks, is currently in its seventh year, and seeks to celebrate and promote Bedouin culture, Sky reported.
In this contest thousands of camels strut their stuff in two competitions: one for the light-coloured Asayel breed and the other for the dark-skinned Majahim.
The animals are judged on a range of criteria ranging from the head size, length of its neck and the shape of the hump. And big is definitely considered beautiful.
Points are also awarded for model behavior, with the best camels being sold for up to 2 million pounds.
