Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak vowed Thursday to uncover the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 as he visited an Australian military site where the international search is based.

Speaking after meeting Australian officials at Pearce Royal Australian Air Force Base near Perth, Prime Minister Najib said the grieving families of those on board the missing plane deserve to have the situation brought to a close.

“The world expects us to do our level best and I’m very confident that you will indeed show what we can do together as a group of nations that we want to find answers, we want to provide comfort to the families and we will not rest until answers are indeed found. I’m very confident that with the level of professionalism shown, as alluded to by Prime Minister [Tony] Abbott, that indeed in due time we will provide a closure to this event or this tragedy,” said Najib.

Nearly four weeks after the Boeing 777 went missing, a multinational team of ships and planes scouring the southern Indian Ocean has found no signs of wreckage.

Speaking alongside Najib, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said there is no guarantee the plane will be located. But he said authorities are “quite a long way off” from giving up the search.

“I am confident that everything that possibly can be done to find this aircraft will be done. We cannot be certain of success, but we can be certain of the professionalism and the effort that will be brought to the task,” said Abbott.

Australian officials reported good weather conditions and clearer visibility Thursday, as the surveillance planes and ships resumed their search, about 1,700 kilometers from Perth.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s national police chief said Wednesday they have cleared all of the plane’s 227 passengers of wrongdoing. But Inspector General Khalid Abu Bakar said authorities are continuing to investigate the two pilots and other crew members.

Khalid said investigators need more time to solve the mystery, warning it is possible that there may never be any complete answers to the mystery of the Boeing 777 jet that vanished.

The Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 vanished without any distress calls on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Officials have refused to rule out any possibilities, including hijacking, sabotage, or a mechanical malfunction.
