Jailed Pussy Riot members might be pardoned under new Kremlin amnesty bill
London – The jailed members of the Pussy Riot band could be released under a Kremlin amnesty.
The Kremlin-friendly daily Izvestia said the amnesty bill submitted by President Vladimir Putin would apply to Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina.
The two have been sentenced to two years in prison on hooliganism charges for their irreverent 2012 protest at Moscow’s main cathedral, the Guardian reports.
According to the report, the bill posted by the Kremlin applies to women who have children and have not committed violent crimes.
Tolokonnikova and Alekhina both have children.
Their lawyer, Irina Khrunova, said that the two could fall under amnesty, but that it would only be clear after it is passed by parliament, the report added.
