Meera Chopra: actress cousin Priyanka Chopra and I are close, no connect with Parineeti Chopra

Meera Chopra, who is foraying into Hindi films with forthcoming comedy Gang Of Ghosts, would like to follow her star cousin Priyanka Chopra and play negative roles.

Priyanka is known for playing grey roles in Aitraaz and 7 Khoon Maaf with elan and Meera, a popular name down south, would accept such offers without a second thought.

“I would love to do that. I always used to say that I want to do grey roles because they are very interesting,” said Meera.

She feels that everybody has a grey side to their personality, which doesn’t come out.

“It’s fun to experience that genre. If I get that opportunity, I will sign it in just a minute’s time. I will not even give it a second thought,” said Meera.

Did Priyanka Chopra help her get films in Bollywood?

She said: ” The Hindi film industry is very professional. They (filmmakers) don’t care whose sister you are or where you come from. They won’t cast you just because of your name. Chopra surname never helped me to get films. When it comes to casting, they would cast the right person. The professionalism in Bollywood is on a different level.”

Meera is right now promoting Gang Of Ghosts. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the film stars Mahie Gill, Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra among others.

Meera revealed that she was close to Priyanka but not to her other actress cousin Parineeti. Meera, who has acted in several South films, has always wanted to work in Bollywood but there were reports of sibling rivalry as both Priyanka and Parineeti used to snub her.

Parineeti even went on to say that Meera isn’t family but a distant relative.

Meera said Parineeti’s remarks against her are “unwarranted and stupid.”

“We all have been brought up together 20 years ago. We used to stay together. All brothers were close to each other before they split and were brought up in different cities. Parineeti is young, Priyanka and I are of same age. We are close,” Meera said.

“When she (Parineeti) talks like that, I think it is stupid. Why would you talk like that? It doesn’t disturb me as I don’t have any emotional connect with her. I don’t remember the time spent with her,” she said.

But had such statements come from Priyanka, then it would have definitely bothered Meera as they share a close relationship.

Meera reveals Priyanka was angry as she did not show her anything about her upcoming film Gangs of Ghosts.

“I told her I did not show it to her because it (film) was not ready. Once it is ready, I will definitely show it to her. She has always been there for me but I have never asked for her help. She is a sister, a superstar and she knows I have self-respect and that I will never ask for anything,” Meera said.

Priyanka had promoted Meera’s film, Gangs of Ghosts by sharing the film’s theatrical trailer and tweeting “My sister’s first Hindi movie! Check it!!! (sic)”.

“It was sweet of her (Priyanka) to tweet about the film. She did it herself. I did not ask her to do it. I want to prove a point to my family and to everybody that I can do things on my own. Now when I would need help, I will ask her,” Meera said.

Now that she is here in Bollywood, comparisons will be made with both the cousins and she is ready for that. “I know comparisons will be there. I am confident as an actress. I think whatever comparisons will be made will be good,” she added.
