In a notable interaction, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud welcomed Bollywood actor Aamir Khan to the Supreme Court on August 9, 2024. During the visit, Khan expressed interest in screening his latest movie for the court’s staff and their families. CJI Chandrachud emphasized the need for order during the event, humorously mentioning that a stampede at the Supreme Court was not desirable. The event underscored the cordial relations between the judiciary and prominent figures from the entertainment industry.
Bollywood star Aamir Khan made a notable appearance at the Supreme Court of India, where he was welcomed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. The visit was in anticipation of a special screening of Khan’s film *Laapataa Ladies*, which was organized at the Supreme Court’s administrative building as part of the court’s gender sensitization initiative.
During the court proceedings, Aamir Khan was seated in the front row, observing the post-lunch session. CJI Chandrachud, while introducing Khan to the courtroom, humorously remarked, “I don’t want a stampede in the court, but we welcome Mr. Aamir Khan who is here for the screening of the film.” This light-hearted moment was followed by Attorney General R. Venkataramani jokingly referring to the courtroom as “star-studded,” a comment that sparked laughter among those present.
The initiative to screen *Laapataa Ladies* at the Supreme Court was reportedly suggested by CJI Chandrachud’s wife, Kalpana Das. The screening, which took place from 4:15 pm to 6:20 pm, was attended by Supreme Court judges, their families, and members of the court registry. The film, which focuses on themes of gender equality, was chosen as part of the activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s establishment.
The screening of *Laapataa Ladies*, a film produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, aligns with the ongoing efforts by the Supreme Court to raise awareness about gender issues within its community. The event not only highlighted the intersection of law and culture but also underscored the court’s commitment to social justice through creative mediums.
