IIM-Indore to hold CAT again
INDORE: Despite several cases filed for alleged discrepancies in evaluation of Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM-Indore) has again been entrusted the task of conducting the prestigious examination, which is a gateway to admissions to 13 IIMs and 150 non-IIMs. With this, the institute becomes the only IIM to hold CAT for two years consecutively.
Every year, IIMs are given the task of conducting CAT in a rotational manner. “After CAT scam surfaced in June last year, ministry of human resources and development (MHRD) observed that the rotational pattern was not suitable and asked IIM directors to repeat the institute if it was successful in conducting the test. Accordingly, the IIMs re-assigned the task of conducting CAT to IIM Indore,” said an IIM-I professor.
The professor said prior to IIM-I, IIM-Kozhikode had convened CAT, which drew flak as scorecards of 80 were found to be tampered with.
The IIMs in a joint statement had said their admission process remained unaffected despite tampering of scorecards as they used the master database for shortlisting candidates.
After the scam surfaced, the onus of restoring credibility of CAT was on IIM-Indore which convened CAT-2013. This year, IIM Indore’s partner for CAT-2014 will be Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as US-based Prometric’s five-year contract ended in 2013.
