Do you have a CAT score between 60 – 70 percentile? Checkout the college list accepting low percentile scores
The Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is taken by students who want to pursue a career in the field of management and business studies. Over 2 lakh students appear for CAT aptitude exam held once a year in the month of November, which makes it really tough for the candidates to do well.
Not everyone scores 90+ percentile in CAT and gets into B-schools like IIM Ahmedabad, Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad, etc. Even if you haven’t scored high enough to take admission into top colleges, you must not lose heart. This exam is not the end of the world and should not make you give up on your dream of doing an MBA for which you have worked for so long.
That’s why let’s take a look at some of the private colleges which are accepting a low CAT percentile range between 60-70 so that you can still achieve your ambition of pursuing the wide range of MBA jobs. The job profiles include sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, and many more, irrespective of your score.
CAT Eligibility
The Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification with at least the following aggregate or equivalent CGPA to be eligible for CAT:
- General category, EWS (Economically Weaker Section), Non-OBC – 50%
- Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD)- 45%
However, the candidates who are still in their last year of Bachelor’s degree or are still awaiting their final results can also apply for the CAT. Nevertheless, if they clear the CAT, they will be allowed to join the program provisionally only after a declaration certificate by their respective Universities/Institutions.
Every Business school has its own admission process where they accept candidates after conducting WAT (Written Ability Test) including essay writing, SOP (Statement of Purpose), and GD-PI (Group Discussion – Personal Interview). So, make sure you prepare well for these personality assessment examinations and keep yourself up-to-date with the current affairs especially related to the business sector.
Always try for the Institutes which are situated in tier 1 cities, as most of the Company Headquarters are situated near which increases your chance of higher salary packages.

- SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude) test is mandatory for taking entry into any of the 16 Symbiosis Institutes.
- XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) which is the entrance exam for getting admission into XLRI (Xavier School of Management), XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management) and other many cream colleges like SPJIMR Mumbai ( S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research).
- IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) admission test is applicable for all campuses of IIFT, and there are many more exams apart from CAT which is comparatively easier like – MAT, ATMA, etc.
It is a general sentiment that the graduates with 99 percentile as CAT score from the top-notch MBA schools are the only ones who grab the highest package. But graduates from average schools can be successful as well if they have the skills. And most importantly, if you have a true desire to do something and you are disciplined enough with your career then all that high scores don’t matter often. In the end, your exceptional dedication, irrespective of the college will sail you through. Good Luck for all your future preparation for CAT and other management exams.
