Ramalinga Raju-From riches to rags
His take home was in lakhs excluding taxes. That was when he was at the peak of his career as chairman of Satyam Computers and the brand ambassador of IT revolution in India and AP. But as of today, his salary has been reduced to peanuts. His daily wage has been fixed at just Rs. 50 per day for his work in the fields, kitchen, library or office or the computer section of the Cherlapally central jail .
One grave mistake which appeared very simple and silly at that time has turned a billionaire into a pauper and a jailbird today. Satyam Ramalinga Raju was sentenced to 7 years along with his brother Rama Raju. However, he can only spend half of that money on his daily needs like buying bread, mineral water, toothpaste, soap etc and the remaining 25 rupees will be deposited in his bank account which will be handed over to him on the day of his release.
The jail staff will now assess Raju’s skills and decide on the kind of work to be allotted to him. Raju now has 3 options. He could work as a library assistant, as an adult education coordinator or even as a computer tutor and help other convicts teaching them computer lessons.
Jail authorities are now planning to open up a computer lab which could help educated convicts get tech savvy and also use it for enlightenment and small business. But they run the risk of opening up the world of crime for them any way through internet. for which they have to work out firewalls.
