Bharti Airtel names Srikanth Karra as new HR director for India, South Asia
NEW DELHI: Bharti AirtelBSE -0.45 % Thursday named Srikanth Karra as its new director for human resources for India and South Asia region.
Karra will be a member of the Airtel Management Board, the company’s top management body, and will report to Chief Executive Gopal Vittal, India’s No. 1 telco said in a statement.
Besides overall HR strategy, Karra will responsible for institutionalizing global benchmarks and work in close coordination with the company’s Board to develop and execute various HR initiatives with strong business relevance.
“I am confident that his rich experience will help create a significant impact on our people strategy and processes as we enter an exciting phase of growth led by the growth of new services like data and mobile commerce,” Vittal said in the statement.
Karra has more than 27 years of experience and held several leadership positions in companies such as HP India and Syntel.
Bharti Airtel has been restructured its top deck under Vittal who took over last year and has seen some high profile exits including those of group chief information officer Jai Menon and chief technology officer Jagbir Singh, apart from Krish Shankar, who headed the HR function.
The company, as per industry body Cellular Operators Association of India, enjoys 28.42% market share, followed by Vodafone with 23.01% and Idea 18.79%.
