New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable has lodged a complaint of criminal defamation against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly using a derogatory word about cops during a recent interview.
A constable posted at the Gobind Puri Police Station has filed a complaint against the chief minister, DCP (South-East) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said. This is a non-cognisable offense,” Randhawa said.
A senior police official said Constable Harvinder, who is posted at the Gobind Puri Police Station, has alleged in his complaint that he was hurt by the word ‘thulla’ (slang for a cop) which the chief minister had used for policemen during his interview.
He said Harvinder had watched the interview on television, adding, the complaint has been forwarded to other senior police officers, including police Commissioner B S Bassi.
A similar complaint was also filed at Lajpat Nagar Police Station by another constable, a senior police official said.
In his recent interview, Kejriwal had told India Today in an interview about the AAP government’s “constraints” in ensuring effective functioning of the Anti-Corruption Branch.
Kejriwal had said, “If a Delhi police ‘thulla’ seeks money from a street vendor, that is not acceptable. We will surely file a case against that.”
Police Commissioner Bassi had also hinted his displeasure over the use of word ‘thulla’, slang for a cop, by Kejriwal saying, “I refuse to believe that the honourable chief minister would have used any word of this sort.”
