SpiceJet plane skids off runway at Hubballi airport; all passengers safe
A SpiceJet plane with 78 persons including four crew members on board, skidded off the runway at Hubballi airport in north Karnataka on Sunday night, but none was hurt, an airline senior official said.
The aircraft, coming from Bangalore, skidded off in rain as it landed, the official said. All the passengers and crew on board were safe, he said.
Karnataka Information Minister Roshan Baig was also on board the aircraft.
“No injuries were reported. The incident has been reported to the DGCA. SpiceJet is conducting a full inquiry,” said G P Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer, SpiceJet.
The airline was operating the flight with Bombardier Q-400 plane.
“I was seated in the front. Around 6.40 pm, the pilot announced that it was raining heavily at Hubbali airport and thereafter for another half an hour the plane hovered,” Baig said.
“When the plane landed, it was a very bad landing. The plane started to shake badly. I thought everything is over for me, but by Allah’s grace nothing happened to the plane and the passengers onboard,” he said.
The plane was tilted a bit to a side, he said.
Baig said he flew from Bengaluru to Hubballi to attend a programme tomorrow at Hangal in the district.
