GUWAHATI: Congress is taking leaf out of BJP’s successful experiment, the grand old party has devised training module for its leaders and party workers in Assam.

The extensive training programme of the party workers will start from January 5. Assam Pradesh Congress committee President, Anjan Dutta said. Six day training camp of party’s Seva Dal will start in January where five workers from each constituency will attend the programme. Assam has 126 assembly constituencies.
Those trained will train the block and booth level workers in 3 to 5 day camp. Than the members of Pradesh congress will undergo in the training in month Febuary. Training will be imparted to chief minister, Tarun Gogoi and his council of ministers where they will spend a night in the camp.

Dutta said, “Seva Dal functionaries will train us. There is serious need of training in the party. I have not undergone any training since 1991.”

At the end of the training of various level, Party president Sonia Gandhi will address the workers. Dutta said, “Rifts and misunderstanding occur due to lack of training. The training will impart the ideals and values of congress.”

BJP prior to Lok Sabha polls and soon after the polls BJP trained its cadres. Even parallel training camps of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are underway in different areas of the state.
A senior congress leader in Assam said, “Training programme is long overdue in the congress organizations. We seriously lack dedicated cadres. Despite being in power for last 13 years in Assam we have not been able to revitalize Seva Dal, this is our major organisational flaw. ”

Congress has launched a membership drive to counter BJP. Congress targets to add 30 lakh members by December this year. Congress had a membership base of 10.65 lakh in Assam. The Saffron party has set a target of whooping 25 lakh membership in Assam by March next year.

Congress has started the grass root workers connect initiative to regroup the party which riddled by factionalism. Dutta said, “I will meet party workers in each and every district of the state and seek their opinion. A report will be prepared accordingly.”

The party is also planning to contest the elections to sixth schedule area of Bodoland Territorial Administration Districts (BTAD). To strategies on this senior party members will meet on December 29.

The party is making attempt to recover the lost ground in its strongholdAssam. The party will initiate series of discussion with congressmen, social worker, prominent citizens and others and seek suggestions.
