Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on his development mantra for the state once again on Saturday while addressing a public rally in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar in support of his Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidates in the fray.

Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five phases between November 25 and December 20 and votes will be counted on December 23. The first phase of the assembly elections scheduled for November 25.

“People are astonished as to why I like Jammu and Kashmir so much, I am here because I want to continue what Atal ji started,” Modi told the gathering.

“Whenever I have come to Kashmir, I have come to talk about development.”

He said if Kutch in home state Gujarat can be developed, Kashmir cannot be far behind.

“Earlier being posted to Kutch was seen as a punishment. Now, I can say Kutch is the fastest growing district,” said Modi.

Modi lashed out at the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party accusing them of stalling the progress of the state.

“Can only two families rule Kashmir? These families have an understanding. One will rule for fiver years then the other takes over. There is five-year contract for looting Kashmir between the two families,” said Modi.

“If you don’t punish the two families ruling here, they will come back with renewed resurgence.”

He criticised the Omar Abdullah government’s handling of the recent floods that ravaged the state.

“For the Kashmir government, the floods were an opportunity to loot the region.”

He also talked about the solving the “problems of refugees that have been existing for 50 years”.

“From Jammu and Kashmir we will find solution to the issue of the refugees. I want to tell those spreading lies that they should not mislead people.”

He promised the people he will develop tourism in the state and ensure that the country’s film industry once again chooses to shoot in the scenic state where Bollywood has captured its beauty in many songs and stories.

“The film industry was crazy about Kashmir. So many films were shot here but they went away. I want to bring them back,” Modi assured the people.

Modi urged people to vote for his party saying the Centre and the entire country is willing to support them.

“You will not regret if you give us a chance to serve. Vote for BJP,” he said.

Multi-tier security cover was put in place in Kishtwar town for PM Modi’s visit.

Security personnel have been deployed at all the entry and exit points of the venue Chogan to regulate people thronging the rally, police said.
