How Kunal Ghosh got medicines? CBI to ask jail authorities
KOLKATA: Voicing concern over the alleged suicide attempt made bySaradhaponzi scam accused and suspended Trinamool Congress MPKunalGhosh, the special crime branch of CBI on Friday said it will ask jail authorities how he got access to the medicines.
It is a matter of “great concern” and “very difficult” to understand how Ghosh got access to medicines and subsequently allegedly tried to commit suicide after consuming medicines, CBI sources told PTI here.
“We will certainly write to the jail authorities to know how the medicines reached him and will also inform the court,” the sources said.
The special crime branch of CBI had arrested Ghosh on November 23 last year for his alleged involvement in the Saradha scam.
Ghosh, who is in jail custody and lodged in Presidency correctional home along with Saradha chief Sudipta Sen and his associate Debjani Mukherjee, had been named in the preliminary chargesheet filed by CBI.
He allegedly tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills inside the jail this morning, West Bengal Correctional Home Services Minister H A Swafi said.
A former CEO of Saradha group firm Bengal Media Ltd, Ghosh had threatened to commit suicide when he was produced before a city court on November 10 if CBI did not take “proper action” against those involved within three days.
He had during earlier court hearings accused some top TMC leaders of having benefitted from the scam.
