NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) is understood to have allowed IISc Bangalore to continue with the four-year undergraduate programme.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was among the three institutes that had been asked by the UGC to discontinue their four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUP) and follow the UGC notification on specification of degrees.

IISc had, however, sent a detailed clarification about its programmes and duration seeking review of the UGC decision.

Sources said, UGC has allowed IISc to continue with the programme after revewing the clarifications.

Students pursuing the course get their degree at the end of three years while the last year is reserved in pursuing research under IISc Bangalore’s four-year course.

HRD minister Smriti Irani had told Parliament earlier that IISc Bangalore, Shiv Nadar Noida and Symboisis Pune were conducting 4-year BA and BS programmes and that they had been asked by the UGC to discontinue them.

The development came after Delhi University under pressure rolled back its controversial four-year undergraduate programme.
