Bhiwandi court summons Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against RSS
A magisterial court in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Friday ordered issuing summons to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The court has asked him to appear before it on October 7, 2014 in connection with his allegedly defamatory speech against RSS made during Lok Sabha elections.
The court’s directive came on a case filed by secretary of Bhiwandi unit of RSS Rajesh Kunte. JFMC SV Swamy ordered summons to be issued against Rahul under IPC Section 500 (defamation) for allegedly accusing RSS of killing Mahatma Gandhi, while addressing an election rally at Sonale village on March 6.
A fortnight ago, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and Vice President Rahul Gandhi were summoned as accused in a criminal complaint lodged by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring ownership of now-defunct daily National Herald.
In a few months, Maharashtra goes to poll, and the Congress party, which has been in power for 15 years in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), faces a tough challenge from the saffron combine of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena.
