Sensex turns stormy ; HDFC, TCS, HUL, ITC lead losses
NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Sensex reversed early morning gains of over 50 points in mid morning trade on Monday, led by losses in HDFC, HULBSE -1.68 %, ITC and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.
Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also pared its early morning gains but was still above its crucial psychological level of 6050.
At 09:50 a.m.; the 50-share index was trading at 6061.30, up 1.2 points or 0.01 per cent. It touched a high of 6,083.05 and a low of 6,059.45 in early trade today.
The S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 20,360.39, down 16 points or 0.10 per cent. It touched a high of 20,434.50 and a low of 20,357.48 in trade today.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.21 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index edged higher by 0.42 per cent.
On the sectoral front, the BSE Realty index was up 2.04 per cent, followed by the BSE Metal Index which was trading 1.02 per cent higher, the BSE Healthcare Index was up 0.7 per cent and the BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 0.4 per cent higher.
The BSE FMCG index was trading 0.48 per cent lower, followed by the BSE Banking index which was down 0.12 per cent.
Tata SteelBSE 0.53 % (up 1.7 per cent), Tata Motors (up 1.01 per cent), Sesa Sterlite (up 1.74 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 1.3 per cent) and SBI (up 1.5 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers.
Bajaj Auto (down 1.15 per cent), Bharti AirtelBSE -1.63 % (down 1.2 per cent), TCS (down 0.62 per cent) and GAIL (down 0.94 per cent) were the major index losers.
Asian markets were trading higher tracking gains on Wall Street but the mood still remains cautious.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index was trading 1.1 per cent higher at 14,621.50 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was trading 0.04 per cent higher at 21,647.12.
South Korea’s Kospi index was trading 0.10 per cent higher at 1,924. China’s Shanghai index was trading 1.3 per cent higher at 2,072.
