Terry, Lampard, Cole waiting for new contracts with Chelsea
London – Chelsea captain John Terry and his teammates Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole are reportedly yet to begin talks with the club’s management over the chance of landing new deals given that the trio would reach the end of their contracts this summer.
Terry and Lampard are the most likely to be offered new deals, having started regularly in league games this season, while Cole has not begun a league game since early November and may well be allowed to leave unless there is a turnaround in form.
According to the Daily Express, Chelsea award players over 30 with one-year deals and a source revealed that owner Roman Abramovich will wait before deciding on new contracts, adding that they would not happen in a hurry.
The report mentioned that Abramovich will take advice from manager Jose Mourinho on all three before a decision is made.
Major League Soccer (MLS) club New York Red Bulls have made Cole an offer, although he is desperate to go to the World Cup with England, while Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool also shown an interest in the defender, the report added.
