Policies should explained for better results: Montek
New Delhi – Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia Saturday said there is no alternative to explaining policies to get desired results.
“There is no alternative to explaining policies. The way government functions is important. It tends to function in silos. I am sure there are problems, sometimes regulatory, environment issues are there but that is not the way to perform,” he said in an interactive session organised by FICCI at the chamber’s 86th annual general meeting.
“Decision are becoming politicised, publicised and medicised well before it is being taken. Decision were being delayed because of silo-like treatment. That is why cabinet committee of investment have been formed,” he added.
Talking about the industry-government connectivity and what initiatives government could take to bridge the problems in last mile connectivity, Y.K. Modi, chairman and chief executive officer of Great Eastern Energy Corporation said: “It appears to me until and unless government focuses on investment and employment it is difficult to put investment in place. At the ground level things are not changing. If its changing it is changing for worse. The intention should be to get things going.”
He added: “We have to work so that our shareholders will get return. If we Indians don’t invest in India, do we expect foreigners to come and invest?”
