Messi slams top Barca official over `undeserving of better contract` statement
Karachi – Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has reportedly hit out at a club vice-president for saying the Argentina forward did not deserve a better contract.
Barcelona’s leading all-time leading scorer, Messi, who is in Argentina recovering from a hamstring injury and expected to return in January, rarely speaks about the business side of his career and it is the first time he has openly criticized an important board member of the club.
According to The Dawn, after vice president in charge of Barcelona’s finances, Javier Faus said that he did not see a reason to further extend Messi’s contract following its recent extension till 2018, Messi said that Faus does not know anything about football and wants to run Barcelona like a business, which it is not.
Messi further said that Barcelona is the best team in the world and deserves to be represented by the best executives, and reminded Faus and other executives that neither he nor his representatives had asked for a contract extension at any moment.
