The search giant said that the move will allow it to expand the reach as well as the uses of its maps service adding that it was excited to see the different types of Street View experiences that everyone will contribute, the BBC reports.
Google said that the tool could allow environmental non-profits to document and promote the beautiful places they strive to protect and also opens up new tool for photographers to showcase diversity in a specific location that Street View currently doesn’t cover.
The report said that Google has been trying to look at different ways of gathering images for creating its street views other than sending out cars and trikes, it recently introduced a modified backpack called Trekker for the 360 degree images .
