Johannesburg –  Northern Irish golfer, Rory McIlroy has reportedly said that he didn’t need a win in the in the World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods but he felt good about it and wants to start off sharp in 2014.

The two-time major winner from Northern Ireland started the year at the top of the golf world but endured a rough season before finally getting in the winner’s circle for the first time in more than 12 months at the Australian Open last week.

According to Sports24, McIlroy overhauled Masters champion Adam Scott with a final-round 66 to win by a stroke.

The Irish golfer said that he was happy that the limited amount of times he had gotten in contention this year, he played well even under pressure.

McIlroy’s critics had questioned decision to switch to new equipment and even his dedication to the game, but finding a way out of the chatter was what he learned this year.

He further said that it was the first year that he really had that much criticism and scrutiny and he felt that he has learned to deal with it much better.

The report added that although McIlroy is looking forward to a break, he wants to start off sharp in 2014.
