London – Brazil’s Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo has reportedly warned that England fans may expect being held at knife-points or raped on the streets during the World Cup 2014.

Rebelo’s warnings about such attacks came as the English fans are waiting for tomorrow’s Finals draw before confirming their travel plans.

The minister said that as a country they want to be scrutinised and are sure that it will show more positives than negatives adding that the issue was violence exists and they do not have same safety conditions on the streets as in European cities, Mirror reports.

He said that nobody is comfortable with the violence, or ‘arrastao’- gangs of marauding teenagers carrying knives or guns who suddenly emerge and swarm around their victim.

Brazil also plans to deploy extra police, like an additional 55,000 armed officers were used during this summer’s Confederations Cup, in a bid to clamp down on violence.

According to the report, incidents had been on the decrease over the past few years but there has been a sudden re-emergence of the problem, especially in Rio.

Meanwhile, the government’s special adviser for major events at the Ministry of Justice, Andre Rodrigues, promised that special ‘World Cup Courts’ would be established to administer instant punishments, the report added.
